Elephant Garlic

Softneck Garlic Bulbs
Softneck garlic bulbs won’t produce a stiff central stem. Softneck bulbs of garlic has a somewhat mild flavor. It is the best choice for making garlic braids and it’s the type to grow if you live in regions with mild winters.

Hardneck Garlic Bulbs
Hardneck bulbs of garlic produce a stiff stem growing up through the garlic bulb center. Hardneck garlic bulbs have a relatively sharper flavor compared to soft-neck varieties, with more variation among the varieties in flavor. Also, they’re hardier, which makes them a good selection for areas with chilly winters. However, once harvested the shelf-life of hardneck garlic bulbs is shorter than that of soft–neck varieties. If you grow hardneck garlic bulbs for planting, probably, they’ll form curly scapes. You should cut them off to allow plants to direct their energy for producing large underground bulbs of garlic. Their tender stalks can be used for saut or stir-fries with vegetables.
